4th Fill Tomorrow

I go in for my 4th fill tomorrow. I am going to see a new doc, one that is a short drive (30 mins), instead of my original surgeon in Denver, a plane ride away. I currently have 4.8cc in my 10cc band. As of today, I am exactly 4 months post surgery, and have lost . . .wait for it . . .wait for it . . .18 lbs. Pathetic.

I mean really, who loses 18 lbs in 4 months with weight loss surgery? I do, evidently. What really blows is that I've GAINED almost 5 lbs since my last fill.

I figured out long ago that I can't diet, so I got the band. As far as I can tell, the band has done nearly nothing for me, and as I can't stick with a diet, I'm gaining.

This is beyond frustrating. I hear (ie, read) bandsters say that they couldn't over eat if they wanted to. Well, guess what? I can over eat. I hear bandsters say they go on vacay, and LOSE weight. Well, guess what? I go on vacay and come back 3 lbs heavier.

Just like always.

I'm really, REALLY trying to be optimistic about this new doc. Maybe he'll be more aggressive than my doc in Denver because I won't be so far away in case I need an unfill.

So frustrating. I could really use the $10,000 I spent on this in my bank account right now.

  1. I have a feeling this new doc will do the trick. Having to travel so far for fills must have been a big hindrance.

  3. Sorry you're down. It is frustrating at times, but you'll start losing when you do get restriction. I hope you'll like your new Dr. and as Carmen said a pound a week is pretty good.
    Hang in there!

  4. OMG... I am so sorry to hear the trouble you are having. I was banded March 23rd around the same time as you. I can say that even though my band gives me some restriction. I have tried have to stick to my doctor's strict diet. I cheat like everybody does but I don't eat any rice, bread, pasta, or potatoes, staying away from all white foods, as they call them. I also take 1500 mg of calcium a day and my bariatric multi-vitamin. (They say taking 1200 or more mg of calcium a day makes you lose twice as much weight as someone who doesn't). I am happy with my weight loss but I like everyone wish that it was coming off faster. It seems with the 18 pounds that you are losing about a pound a week. If you want to maximize your weight loss write a list of what you can give up to enhance it. I add things as I go on to my list. And as my diet gets healthy... baby steps, my weight loss gets better. If you write it down, you will know what you are unable or unwilling to give up and what you could do without. I need to add more exercise... I hate it but I have to do it and it has been hard for me because I am so big and it is so painful even to walk short distances still even after losing over 60 pounds. You look great to me already and you'll get to your goal eventually. Tell the doctor how you're struggling so he can give you the fills you need to get where you want to be, restriction wise. As weight-challenged girls, we usually try too hard to please everyone else and put ourselves last. So if your doctor is happy with your weight loss and tells you that you're doing well... tell him that you are on the edge of stopping at Krispy Kreme on the way home and sucking all the creme out of the donuts... Get your point across, they need to make this band work for you. it's just a tool to help with weight loss and you have to do your part but without the batteries or power the tool won't work so you need the fills. I had 4cc put in on my first fill and none since. I need more myself and I let him refuse the last time since he thinks I'm doing great on my own but next time, July 29th, I'm getting a fill if I have to do it myself...LOL.
